However, actually what I meant by this was to focus on the negative part of the movement to maximise your muscular contraction . Let’s take something simple like a bicep curl. On the way up you are condensing all the muscle fibres and on the way down you are letting them tear. So it makes no sense to neglect this part of the movement . My focus with the eccentric (negative) part of the movement would be to progressively overload on the way down (even if you need a hand getting it up) 😳🙊 . It all depends on what your goal is but for maximum muscle growth and contraction focus on controlling the negative movement . You are actually stronger in this part of the movement as for the most part you are only controlling it against gravity . This may also help you gain some strength too. I use it a lot for exercises like push press where you use slight momentum to get the weight up but control it against gravity . Leave your ego at the door when it comes to lifting is true but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be going heavy.
